Canadian bilingual food labelling requirements
Canadian food labelling laws require that all mandatory information on food labels appear in both official languages: English and French. This includes ingredients, nutrition facts, nutrient content and health claims, common name, net weight and dealer name and address.
Provincial Laws in Quebec require that all information on packaged food for sale in Quebec appear in French and that French be given equal visual weight and representation.
Whether you are a small or large brand it’s almost alway advisable to design your packaging to comply with Quebec requirements. Most national retailers and distributors in Canada prefer products they can sell in Quebec.
At Brand Natural we work with experienced technical and brand copy translators so that your labels are both correct and maintain maintain consistent personality and tone in French and English.
